Navigating Land Use Regulations

Course #: NCBU120
Description:

This seminar addresses how to navigate the regulatory process at your Town Hall.  Land Use is regulated by a special statute (the Zoning Statute).  This law gives municipalities the right to regulate how people use their property, by adopting zoning by-laws, and requiring applications to “vary” those by-laws (a variance application) or permit certain uses (special permit).  There are also environmental and conservation concerns that are involved in the process.  As a result, a land owner may find that it is necessary to appear before several different boards and commissions.  This seminar provides a review of the land-use process and answers many of the questions that you have been wanting to ask.
